Weekend Road Trip

DSC_7674This weekend Rita and I took a road trip to Toronto to visit family, see the Outdoor Adventure Show, do some shopping, and take a stroll through the Distillery District.

After visiting family on the Friday, we left in the early afternoon for the annual Outdoor Adventure Show (OAS), of which my dive club shared a booth. I have been looking forward to the OAS for a while now, and it wasn’t too bad but it also didn’t blow my socks off or anything. After I did a short presentation at our booth, we took a tour around the show and collected some free samples :) . The masses of people got old quick and we decided to head to our next destination–the mall.

Ah yes, the mall; Rita’s paradise and my inferno. Actually, this time wasn’t so bad and we both picked up a couple of things. Perhaps the biggest score was in the board game department. We have been looking for Balderdash since Christmas and it seems to be sold out everywhere! It can be boughten online, but the going price is about $40-50 dollars with shipping. Anyway, this one toy store we came across had a big sale going on and we found Balderdash for $15!! With some entrepreneurial spirit, we bought two extra to sell online. We also picked up Tribond for $13–wow!

DSC_7667We finished shopping around 6:00pm and decided to head to the Distillery District for a bite to eat. I had heard good things about the place and have been wanting to check it out for a while. The district is a “premiere arts, culture and heritage precinct” with lots of small shops, art galleries, and restaurants. In short, it had a mysterious atmosphere (we were there at night), which was nice, but it would definitely be better to visit during a nice summer’s day rather than a cold winter night. It was still a nice trip as I was able to get a couple of pictures and we had a bite to eat at the Mill St. Brewery. I enjoyed a glass of their Original Organic Lager, which is made from organic Hallertau Hops from New Zealand.

DSC_7715Finally, after a long day of walking and driving, we headed home (not before taking a picture of cars flashing by on the highway) just in time for me to take a one hour nap before work *yawn. It was a full day to say the least, but it was fun to get out and do something different. Does anyone have any exciting road trips coming up?

Great photos. I love ‘em. I wish I also have a luxury of time to go on a road trip and take some photos.
