Feel like learning a little something? Well, freedocumentaries.org has a collection of free, streaming documentaries that watch right from your web browser. This isn’t your typical free site where you get bottom-of-the-barrel content either. Documentaries available on their site include Bowling for Columbine, Iraq for Sale, and The War on Democracy.
You would think something fishy is going on here, but freedocumentaries.org follows all copyright laws and only lists documentaries that filmmakers allow. Why are filmmakers allowing their films to be streamed for free online? Well, it generates interest in their films and also encourages people to buy their DVDs.
The documentary I’m watching right now is The War on Democracy, which looks at the movement going on in Latin America against American imperialism. It’s very good so far. It’s focus is on Hugo Chavez and Venezuela and critically analyzes both sides of the argument. I’d recommend it to anyone who thinks they know what is going on in the country or is a little confused about the situation. Here is the trailer; you can find the film on the website.
–Update–
I finished watching the documentary and can’t count the number of times I got goosebumps. It’s description of the happenings in Latin America over the past ~60 years is well-constructed and easy to understand. At the same time, it is very emotional and moving. Everyone should watch this documentary to get an understanding of how the US political system works internationally, the tools it uses to get what it wants, and its disastrous affects on the nations and people of Latin America.
