New Spectacles

newspectacles.jpgWith these new things on my face, I feel much more justified in saying the word “spectacles.” No, I’m not trying to be Johnny Depp or Buddy Holly, I’m just following Rita’s orders. There comes a point in every man’s life where he realizes that, sometimes, the girlfriend has sovereignty over certain areas of his life. These would include fashion, household furnishings, and just about anything else that she can get her hands on. Hence, I took Rita’s advice on which new glasses to purchase.

I’ve had my older pair of glasses for 4 years now (if you ask Rita, it’s been 7–space and time are other things that the significant other tries to control) and they have gotten pretty beaten up. I wanted to just get new lenses, but Rita’s insistence to get new frames, along with the sales rep’s cost-benefit justification for my getting new frames, defeated my battle strategy. So, the war to find new frames was on.

We searched for a good couple of hours and finally had it down to two options. One, was the pair I’m wearing now and the other was a somewhat similar pair that had a rimless bottom and were a little more “low-profile.” I preferred the low-profile pair while Rita and the sales rep liked the full-blown spectacles. Again, I was backed into a corner.

In terms of fashion sense arsenal, Rita and the rep were comparable to the U.S. Military while I was probably comparable to, um, Iceland? In any case, I don’t need to tell you who won the battle of the spectacles. In the end, I’m not disappointed in the purchase; I think I like the frames, and I’m getting used to them :). There also comes a time in every man’s life where he realizes that the significant other’s sovereignty over parts of his life are probably for a good reason ;).

spectaclesd1121.jpgFrugal Tip: If you’ve got time when shopping for new glasses, I would go into the store, find the pair you like, and then search for them on an online retailer. I found my frames online (same size and colour) for $110 less than what I paid for them in the store–that’s about 50% off, ouch!
