The Story of Stuff

storyofstuff.jpg“From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.”

That’s the synopsis of a short animated film I just watched called The Story of Stuff. It basically explains, in common language, everything I’ve been studying for the past four years of school. It is an informative, yet simply-understood, look at the “big picture” of what is going on in our world and relates to a lot of what I write about on this blog. It is like a 20-minute animated version of The Corporation and will definitely change the way you look at the world. I promise this will be the best 20 minutes you spend today, take a peek –> http://storyofstuff.com/

It’s a shame there’s no book version. This would make a great Christmas gift for someone I know. I guess I’ll have to settle for sending her an e-mail link to your post instead. Good find, though!

This is SO fantastic! People get tired of hearing my ranting about hyperconsumption (I tend to go on tirades) . . . now I can just point them to this!

lol, I feel your pain Vallejo. It’s an uphill battle when it comes to letting people know that everything they were brought up to believe about capitalism is flawed. Most people don’t see any other alternative–they just see that straight line the textbook talks about.

Awesome video. I do feel as if i have been at school for 4 years after watching this. Because a lot of things they elaborate on at school is so irrelevant. This shows the power of small film.
