Corrosive Comments Part 1: Rap/HipHop Music

screaming_man.jpgYou know, sometimes it isn’t the videos on YouTube that I get my kicks from, but the comments below them. Is it weird that I just spent an hour browsing videos to read their comments rather than actually watch videos? Perhaps. However, I can say that it was no less entertaining!

I read a lot of blogs and, therefore, a lot of comments and one thing I’ve noticed is that people are not afraid to let it all out when they are under the semi-anonymous protection of the internet. This makes places like YouTube a great source for finding out what people think of or how they react to certain subject matters. Comments are usually made immediately after the reader or viewer has absorbed the content. This means that whatever emotions they felt while watching the video or reading the article are going to come right out in their comment. Little do they know, weird people like me are there to analyze and criticize this personal behaviour.

With this said, I bring to you my Corrosive Comments series. This will be a 5-part series where I post comments from a certain video or blog article under a given category. The categories will be hot topics of today that generate heated emotions. The comments I choose are not to suggest that “all people think this.” I’m choosing comments that I think will make you laugh, cringe, say “huh?,” or out-right piss you off. So, with that said, let’s see what people are saying around the internet.

This weeks topic is… Rap/Hip Hop Music

Why? Because if there is any place to start looking for controversy and demeaning comments, rap/hip hop music is a great place to start. Whether you love it or hate it, there is no denying its influence and the love and anger it brings out in people. It fits the bill for what I’m trying to get at with this list. Here are comments I found on SouljaBoy’s Crank That.

  • “niggers and there music. im not racist but i h8 rap its so gay”
  • “niggs fucking rule da world bitch”
  • “could this gay black people look any more like complete wastes of oxygen?wtf is a superman on a hoe? think of an actual song black people.”
  • “”nhtkiller” GO SUCK YO MAMA’S DICK YOU RASIST BITCH FAKE ASS HOe”
  • “ok all u fags who h8 this vid y the fuck r u watchin it! and also lets see u make a fuckin song/vid that gets 18million+ hits on it …god u fuckin retards need to stop gettin hardcore with ur keyboard and go join the fuckin special olympics…although u would still lose!”
  • “This was a waste of time, this song sucks, and so does ” Soulja Boy “. Terrible, terribile music.. should be shot.”
  • “n0w i understand Y they say HIP H0P is DEAD……..this is garbage”

What’s garbage is these comments. Browsing through the comments, I could barely find anything without some sort of hate in it. Even the “positive” comments were demeaning: “This song is great… BITCH.” What gets me most upset is fighting hate with hate. Not only is it childish, but it does nothing but degenerate the situation. What’s disappointing is that these comments are for a video that currently has just under 19 million views–19 million! You can browse through YouTube for hours and have trouble finding videos with this many views. The fact that such a popular video is generating so much hatred is a troubling sign of the times and something we should be pretty worried about. What are your comments on this? Let it out!

It is great to meet another person who also likes reading comments under YouTube movies. I prefer not to do it anymore as it was consuming too much of my time.
I would like to share with you my adventures with reading the comments. The other day I was looking for some good aerobics videos and I came across this Japanese aerobic instructors that teach English while performing exercises. The comments concerning Japanese people found there still make me laugh today, I am even laughing a little bit right now while writing this comment. There was no hatred in them however.
Keep up the good work PBriscoe. Reading your post was a lot of fun for me.

It’s sad and inevitable dude… Generations that are following ours are alot more hateful, ignorant and immature. Mind you there are also some within our generation and those before us that are the same way but it’s not as big a concern in a sense. We’re already in our early 20’s and are realizing that hate, ignorance and immaturity solves nothing.

I believe kids should taught to have more respect for their fellow man no matter what the situation may be..

Will that actually happen?? I believe the chances are slim at best.

What you have there is a bunch of losers who are in denial,, But that’s the beauty of comment posts.. Brings out the worst in people,, and sometimes the best too. But that’s its very essence. You get to say wht you wanna say,, Too bad there is only air in those guys’ brains,, But then again.. We should all say no to comment regulation. That’s a little off the topic but I had to say it anyway,, *grin*

I am totally agree with MarriedMelody. I like to see comments under the you tube video as by it I can distinguish that it will be good or not.
However, thanks for sharing your views.:)

I agree… some of the comments are a little ridiculous. It is funny that these people think its okay to say these things hiding behind their computers, but I doubt anyone would do it in public.

I don’t really care too much about the comments people make about the you tube video/s I’m watching. Most of the time the people leaving comments are speaking out of there rear ends anyway..I have to say though, that I am so with you on the whole fighting hate with hate thing. It is very childish and definitely degenerates the situation. In their mind, it makes them “cool” to speak that way because they must be more gangsta then the actual artist/person on the video! Yeah Right!
