The recent upgrades to my site have allowed me to play around with a lot of new features. To take advantage of some of these, I decided to change the theme of my gallery. The layout is still pretty much the same, but the way content is displayed is more interactive than it used to be.
The gallery now features lightbox, which lets you view larger images without having to go to a new page. In the past, if you were looking at a thumbnail image and wanted to see it enlarged, you would click on the thumbnail and go to a new page with a larger image. You would then have to hit the back button to return to the thumbnails. With lightbox, when you click on a thumbnail, a larger version of that image pops right up in front of you without going to a new page. This saves time and looks a lot better. Also, if you want, you can browse through all the images in the album just by clicking the “Next” button within the lightbox popup.
If you aren’t a big fan of lightbox, you can always use the gallery the traditional way by clicking on the icon below any given thumbnail. This will bring you to the image’s own page where you can view more details and browse other images in an interactive “mini thumbnail” box. You can also get to the image’s page from within lightbox by clicking “View Photo Page.”
Overall, I think this change is a positive one and will make viewing the gallery more efficient and hopefully more enjoyable. You can take a look at the changes by clicking here.
