The Global Machine: Check out World Clock

worldclock.jpgI was given a link via an email to a super-cool World Clock that approximates various happenings around the world. This clock not only calculates deaths and births by the second like most clocks of this nature, it also tells you the causes of death, monitors the environment, and gives other interesting statistics.

The clock runs on data gathered from the World Health Organization, the United Nations, Internet World Stats, and other official sources. The clock is a great eye-opener to how massive our world is and how quickly things are changing within it. Head on over and take a look at The Spirit of Now.

LOL… if you aren’t careful, you can be mesmerized by this site and end up watching it instead of working! :) Very cool site.

I spend many many hours sat at work starring at that clock. My favourite counters would have to be the one showing the number of cars produced (I drive 2 total pieces of cr*p and hope that one day the counter will have magically turned them into a new car), and the suicides, violence and war counters. People worry about the war in Iraq and Violence in their home towns… The total number of suicides is more than those 2 combined. I think the clock would be much better if it had a pessimistic mode like the original death clock, or maybe a big arrow that pops up on one of the illnesses every now and then saying ‘YOU!’. End of rant.
