Broadcast Yourself Live

ustream.pngI came across UStream.tv the other day. I’ve been waiting for a site like this for ages and it has finally arrived. Although I don’t really have a use for it, the service is great. The site allows you to do live streaming feeds through a basic webcam. If you don’t know what a live streaming feed is, it’s basically just a live broadcast that you can watch over the internet. With UStream, you can broadcast anything from your (or a friend’s) concert, to a live training session.

I wanted to set something like this up when I did my Scubathon but it would have taken too much work to set it up manually. Now that this service is available, it is so much easier. I want to give it a try but have no idea what I could broadcast. What would have been cool is if this site was available on mine and Rita’s anniversary; then I could have broadcasted my song to her live over the internet. Anyway, it’s a great idea for those who are having an event that long-distance friends or family can’t attend. Just set up your webcam and they can watch the event live.

Overall, this service is a cut above the traditional podcast since you can either watch the live stream or download it after it airs and watch it at a later time. UStream is only 35 days, 8 hours, and 50 minutes old right now, but I can see it being one of the next big sites that everyone is going to.
