On March 11, 2007 Rita and I celebrated our 5-year anniversary! Time has flown by, yet at the same time it feels like we’ve been together forever. It was in Grade 9 French class that I first realized Rita was the one for me. Unfortunately, it took her another year to realize this. Finally she came to her senses and, well, the rest is history.
With five years being quite a milestone, I knew I needed to do something special for this anniversary. I have started to learn the guitar and thought it would be a good idea to try and learn a song for her. However, just replaying someone else’s song didn’t really appeal to me because then it wouldn’t be as personal. At the same time though I had no idea how to write a song! Did I let that stop me? No way! I started to just strum a couple chords that sounded kind of okay, and then just repeated them over and over, adding lyrics as I went along. Finally, I ended up with something that might pass for a song (titled “My Beautiful”) and started practicing for the big day.
I recorded the whole process so that I could make a video for Rita once everything was done. I’ve included the video here and some of the footage will be seen by her for the first time. I must warn you though, I am completely new at the guitar, have never sung a song before, and was extremely nervous playing it, so it’s no Justin Timberlake. Enjoy. Happy Anniversary Pumpkin!
