On Tuesday, I took Rita to the Canon Theatre in Toronto to see the new musical Wicked (as her Christmas present). The play is based on the book by Gregory Maguire, which tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West before Dorothy came along in the movie “The Wizard of Oz.”
The play was absolutely awesome and Rita and I were both very happy with it. The actors were spectacular, as was the singing. It was also pretty funny and made a lot of connections with the 1939 movie. The play has been running for a few months now I think and the last performance is on December 31. All of the remaining shows have been sold out though.
Before the play we wandered around Yorkdale mall and the Eaton Centre trying to do some Christmas shopping. Although that didn’t work out too well (we didn’t buy a single gift), we had a good time browsing–something I usually don’t like. The Eaton Centre had it’s huge Christmas tree up, which was covered with thousands of crystal ornaments that sparkled as the tree rotated. It was a pretty neat replacement for lights.Below are some pictures that I took of it from my cellphone.
Overall, the day was a success and we spent the next day doing our Christmas shopping.
